Ciertamente, el trabajo en equipo es un tema recurrente para nosotros, ya que vivimos en un mundo con problemas para ceder y colaborar. Como profesores de esta generación, estamos resaltando la importancia de enseñar cooperación a nuestros estudiantes como herramienta para mejorar nuestro futuro y construir unas bases sólidas para poder evolucionar en la buena dirección.

En nuestro centro, apoyamos a cada estudiante y reconocemos sus habilidades, fomentando no sólo la comunicación profesor-alumno, sino que también ayudamos a desarrollar una relación sana y constructiva entre compañeros. Esto no es sólo algo que hacen los maestros, sino algo que también animamos a los estudiantes a buscar en el otro. Una clase que se respeta y se apoya, hace del aula y del mundo un lugar mejor para todos. Siendo esto, sinónimo de un equipo eficaz, transparente y exitoso.

Educando en cooperación, podemos afirmar sin miedo a equivocarnos, que todos aportamos algo con nuestro granito de arena para hacer del mundo un lugar más sano, con capacidad para apreciar las mentes y las capacidades que nuestros niños están adquiriendo desde la escuela.  Sus acciones decidirán nuestro futuro y afectarán a nuestra realidad.  En nuestra clase, los estudiantes son y serán siempre aprendices activos y humanos conscientes.

En sexto, uno de nuestros proyectos punteros este año ha sido la experiencia científica dónde cada grupo tuvo que hacer una presentación de uno de los cinco sentidos.  Los estudiantes comenzaron entusiastas y motivados, hasta el punto de que el hecho de tener todo su tiempo ocupado, no les hizo echarse atrás ni dejar de ver el objetivo cada vez más cerca.  Los estudiantes tuvieron las instrucciones para hacer una portada, investigar enfermedades de su sentido, dibujarlo y poner etiquetas de todas sus partes.  Al final, tuvieron que escribir una historia sobre cómo creen que sería su vida si perdieran el sentido durante un día.

• Después de la mitad del proyecto, fue necesario dar una presentación de cómo trabajar como un grupo.  Por lo tanto, se les explicó que las palabras más peligrosas eran <<¡No es mi trabajo!>> Tuvieron que imaginar cómo sería el mundo si nadie aceptase ninguna responsabilidad o si todo el mundo hiciera tareas sencillas por temor a que su trabajo a realizar le suponga un reto que le haga salir de su zona de confort.  Decidimos que lo más importante es ayudarnos y que a veces no todo es tan fácil como nos gustaría, pero el esfuerzo que debemos mostrar entonces, hace que valga la pena superarse y afrontar los retos que se nos presentan.

• Finalmente, esta presentación nos ayudó a ser conscientes del valor del trabajo bien hecho. Los alumnos se dieron cuenta de que el progreso y las ganas de mejorar son sinónimo de un buen trabajo.  Presentaron los proyectos en inglés, mostrando confianza, calidad, fluidez y pasión.  Esos grupos sabían cómo pronunciar las palabras y habían repasado los conceptos entre ellos.  Gracias a todos los estudiantes, profesores y padres que nos ayudaron a alcanzar el logro de este proyecto.

• En el tramo final, los estudiantes trabajaron juntos y dieron lo mejor de ellos mismos en el trabajo cooperativo, lo que les llevó a producir presentaciones y proyectos de una calidad extraordinaria. Haber comprobado el valor y el apoyo que mostraron los alumnos, nos anima a continuar realizando estas actividades que reflejan la unidad y la cooperación de una clase que se ha convertido en un verdadero equipo.

English Experiences with the five senses through Cooperative Learning 

Certainly, teamwork has been a consistent theme throughout the school year as we live in a world that has problems with reaching a consensus on almost anything.  As teachers of this generation, we are emphasizing the importance of teaching cooperation to our students, as a tool to improve our future and build a solid foundation to be able to evolve in the right direction.

In our school, we try to support every student and recognize his or her strengths fostering not only a teacher-student communication, but also helping to develop a healthy and constructive relationship between peers.   This is not just something that the teachers do, but something that we also encourage the students to seek out in each other.  Classes that support each other and work together to make our classroom and world a better place for everyone. A class that is respected and supported is synonymous with an effective, transparent and successful team.

By educating in cooperation, we can affirm without fear of making mistakes that we all contribute our bit to make the world a healthier place, capable of appreciating the minds and abilities that our children are acquiring from school. Your actions will decide our future and affect our reality. In our class, students are and will always be active learners and conscious humans.

In sixth grade, one of our first projects this year was a science experience where each group had to do a presentation on one of the five senses: hearing, sight, touch, taste, smell. The students began enthusiastic and motivated, to the point that the fact of having all their time occupied did not make them back down or stop seeing the main objective. The students were instructed to do a cover page, research diseases about their sense, draw a picture of the sense and label the parts, and finally write a story about what it would be like if they lost their sense for a day.

By educating in cooperation, we can affirm without fear of making mistakes that we all contribute our bit to make the world a healthier place, capable of appreciating the minds and abilities that our children are acquiring from school.

• Nevertheless, halfway through the project, I felt the need to give a presentation on how to work as a group. Therefore, it was explained to them that the most dangerous words were “That’s not my job!” They had to imagine what the world would be like if no one accepted responsibility or if everyone evaded doing simple tasks for fear that they would be out of their comfort zone. We decided that it was important that we all help each other with everything and that sometimes not everything is as easy as we would like, but that our efforts make it worthwhile to overcome the challenges we face.

• This presentation truly clicked for many of the students, and they became aware of the value of a job well done. The students realized that progress and the desire to improve are synonymous with good work. They presented the projects in English showing confidence, quality, fluency and passion. They knew how to pronounce words and had reviewed the concepts among themselves. Thank you to all of the students, teachers, and parents who helped us to achieve success on this project!

• In the end, the students came together to give it their best efforts to work as a team and produce some presentation and projects that were truly magnificent.  The way they showed courage to speak in English, correct and support each other made us excited to continue with new activities that require us to work together as a class and a team.
